Former French president's favourite chef says food should be simple, not political

Three-Michelin-starred chef Eric Frechon is known for being former French president Nicolas Sarkozy's favourite chef.

His restaurant, Epicure in Hotel Le Bristol in Paris, has been dubbed "Sarkozy's canteen" because the former president "eats there every day", but the 49-year-old Normandy-born chef dispels the myth.

He says in French via a translator: "The truth is, Mr Sakorzy comes about five times a year with other politicians, not every day.

"They also say that maybe we got the Michelin stars because of him. But food should stay simple and not be political. We focus on the everyday people who walk in and have saved all year long for a meal at the restaurant. Right from the reception, they should feel at home."
