Debut film clinches top prize at 4th Singapore Short Film Awards
Director Ang Geck Geck met the lead role in her short film, Broken Crayon (2012), by chance.
She was buying a box of durian mooncakes one day and casually asked the part-time seller - 45-year-old housewife Carol Ku - if she had any children.
Ms Ku does. Last Saturday, the younger of her two daughters, Denise Goh, accompanied Ang to collect the top prize, Best Fiction Film, at the 4th Singapore Short Film Awards.
Ang's Broken Crayon, in which eight- year-old Denise stars as a girl sexually abused by her cousin, beat three other nominees to the prize.
