Clever 'hoverboard' video turns out to be hoax

It was a scene straight out of the movie Back To The Future, in which Michael J. Fox's character Marty McFly goes on a wild chase on a skateboard that hovers a few metres in the air.

When on March 3, a company called HUVr posted a video on YouTube featuring professional skater Tony Hawk, musician Moby and others floating on a hoverboard in a carpark, the Internet went wild.

Many believed the technology from the 1985 film had finally become a reality, and the video drew close to six million views by March 6, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

HUVr claimed the demonstrations were real, and even got Back To The Future actor Christopher Lloyd to appear in the 4min 30sec clip.
