Fresh-faced teenagers and club patrons in their 20s are chilling out more often at club lounges, and shelling out top dollar on bottles of premium liquor.

The club lounge - a laid-back concept where one can have a seat, have a few drinks and enjoy easy-on-the-ear music - has always been popular with the more mature crowd, such as those in their late 30s or 40s. Increasingly, though, it is winning over those as young as 18 years.

Operators of these club lounges - such as Zouk, which owns club lounge Velvet Underground off Kim Seng Road; Avalon with its Spider Room at Marina Bay Sands; and Massive Collective with Royal Room at Pan Pacific Singapore - say they are seeing younger patrons with spending power.

At some of these places, you have to spend a minimum of $1,000 to book a table for eight - which works out to be an average of about $100 to $200 a person.
