Gym bunnies looking for somewhere nice to workout and that does not involve big-bucks membership, sit up. Options are out there.

First and foremost: the newly refurbished Safra (Singapore Armed Forces Reservist Association) Toa Payoh which reopens over the weekend of Oct 27-28 after a two-year, $52 million revamp.

There’s an open house that weekend for the public to check out national servicemen’s swished-up recreational clubhouse. It features a two-storey, 1,486 sq m EnergyOne gymnasium - one of five gyms managed by Safra around the island - plus eight food outlets, three swimming pools and a 24-lane bowling alley.

Safra members such as project manager Nelson Khoo, 27, are eagerly anticipating its reopening: “I’m definitely looking forward to the new gym. It’s going to be the biggest among the Safraclubs, so I would expect it to have all the latest equipment.”
