LONDON (AFP) - Comic actor Clive Dunn, who played the bumbling Lance-Corporal Jack Jones in the hit British sitcom Dad's Army, has died aged 92 after a short illness, his agent said on Wednesday.

Dunn, who also scored a number one hit in Britain with the song Grandad, made his career playing men several decades his senior.

The actor died on Tuesday in Portugal, where he lived out his last 30 years or so. "He had been a star since the mid-1930s," said agent Peter Charlesworth.

"He was a young man playing old men even when he was young. He will be a real loss to the acting profession." Dunn was born into a showbusiness family in London in 1920 and had a number of small film roles before World War II broke out.
