A number of notable award-winning Chinese-language movies will be shown in Singapore for the first time, at the upcoming Singapore Chinese Film Festival.

Movies to look out for include Jia Zhangke's crime flick A Touch Of Sin (2013), which won the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes last year, as well as the Hou Hsiao-hsien-produced documentary Beyond Beauty: Taiwan From Above (2013), which won the award for Best Documentary at the Golden Horse Awards last year.

Also on the line-up: Hong Kong hip-hop flick The Way We Dance (2013), whose lead actress Cherry Ngan earned a nomination for Best Actress at last year's Golden Horse.

In total, the festival will be screening more than 36 films across the island at locations including The Cathay cineplex to the National Museum, from April 17 to 27.
