A photographic print of a cargo ship travelling from Shenzhen, China to Hong Kong, is the winner of the largest regional award for art.

The work, Back Home with Baudelaire, No.5 (2005) by the Hong Kong-based artist collective MAP Office, was named the winner of the Sovereign Asian Art Prize yesterday at a gala dinner in Hong Kong.

MAP Office, which comprises Laurent Gutierrez, 47, from Morocco and Valerie Portefaix, 44, from France, beat 29 other finalists from countries such as India, Australia and Singapore to walk away with the US$30,000 award.

The winning work was picked by a panel of five judges that includes Mr Lars Nittve, executive director of Hong Kong museum M+, and Ms Emi Eu, director of the Singapore Tyler Print Institute.
