Amitav Ghosh and the 'fun bit of writing'

Bestselling Indian author Amitav Ghosh says that his former journalism career has helped him to write fiction.
The former journalist with The Indian Express newspaper says: "I am very grateful for it. It has taught me to listen more closely. "
Digging around in far-flung archives to unearth details that find their way into books, he feels, is still "the fun bit of writing".
To write The Ibis Trilogy, he spent a month on a sailing ship to find out what it feels like to be out at sea.
