LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Grammy-winning British songstress Adele is to perform the Oscar-nominated theme song from 007 blockbuster Skyfall at next month's Academy Awards show, organisers said on Wednesday.

The performance will be the first time she has sung the song live, and her first United States (US) television appearance since last year's Grammys. The tune is nominated for Best Original Song at the Feb 24 event.

"It's an honor to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again," said the singer, in a statement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

"It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once!" she added.
