24-hour self-service laundromats rising in popularity
Self-service laundromats are springing up around the island, in residential areas such as Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh.
Many laundromat users say this rise in popularity could be down to an increasingly hectic lifestyle. Self-service laundromats afford users the luxury of doing their laundry in a shorter amount of time. Furthermore, most of these laundromats are open 24 hours, and allow working professionals to do their laundry after work or late at night.
Many also say that the larger capacity of the machines at self-service laundromats makes it convenient for them to process bulky items such as comforters, curtains, and sofa covers. The dryers at self-service laundromats also mean that users need not worry about the vagaries of the weather.
The cost of using these facilities is comparatively lower than simply utilising drop-off laundry services at traditional laundromats. At drop-off laundromats, a load of 4kg would cost an average of $13.90 to process. In contrast, the average cost of processing 11kg of laundry at self-service laundromats is $5.
