$13 million allocated to produce documentaries telling Singapore stories
In the run-up to Singapore's 50th birthday in 2015, MediaCorp's free-to-air regional network Channel News Asia is setting aside a budget of $13 million to commission and produce 30 hours of documentaries focusing on Singapore's heritage and identity.
This was announced on Wednesday at a press conference at The Arts House.
The $13 million funding comes from the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and Media Development Authority (MDA), and the budget for each hour-long episode will range from $120,000 to $200,000.
This is considerably more than the $40,000 to $50,000 usually set aside for local productions of a comparable scale, say industry insiders.
