Three killed, dozens trapped as building collapses in Mumbai
Three people were killed and dozens more feared trapped under the rubble of a five-story building in Mumbai, in the third such incident in the country's financial capital.
Authorities were trying to figure out the number of people trapped inside the building, owned by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the municipal body that looks after Mumbai, with estimates ranging from 50 to 110 people.
“Our initial assessment was 110,” said Mr Sachidanand Gawde, deputy commandant at the National Disaster Response Force.
“Now municipal authorities say it could be 50. We are carrying out our operations and our focus is to extricate as many victims are possible,” he said.
