China's new leadership to emerge next Thursday
BEIJING - China's new leadership for the next decade will emerge next Thursday, after the Chinese Communist Party wraps up its 18th Party Congress.
The five-yearly event kicks off tomorrow morning in the Chinese capital, but no closing dates have been given until a congress spokesman gave the details at a media briefing on Wednesday.
Mr Cai Mingzhao also told reporters that Vice-President Xi Jinping, the incoming party chief, is the secretary-general of the congress, which makes him in charge of running the week-long event.
Apart from producing the apex Politburo Standing Committee under Mr Xi's charge, the congress attended by 2.270 delegates will also elect a new central disciplinary commission tasked to fight corruption and keep cadres in line.
