China-Japan spat over islands risks conflict, Clinton told
WASHINGTON: The islands spat between China and Japan could spin out of control unless the countries improve their bilateral communication, a confidential report submitted to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, according to Bloomberg news on Thursday.
The report was submitted by a US bipartisan four-person delegation who last week met with Japan's prime minister and China's vice premier, and the foreign ministers of both countries.
The US group warned Mrs Clinton in its report that, while neither side wants a confrontation, a mistake or miscalculation could escalate into a military face-off, the news agency said.
Members of the delegation described their findings on the condition of anonymity because their meetings and report are confidential.
