Brazilian suspected of triple murder in Japan is arrested
SAO PAULO (AP) - The Brazilian police say they have arrested a man suspected of the December 2006 strangulation slayings in Japan of his Brazilian girlfriend and her two sons.
The federal police agency said Edilson Donizete Neves is one of Japan's "most-wanted criminals", but that as a Brazilian citizen he cannot be extradited. He was arrested on Thursday.
The police said Neves returned to Brazil one day after the triple murder in Shizuoka to escape the death penalty he could have faced in Japan.
They added that Neves could be sentenced to up to 90 years in jail. But under Brazilian law, no one can serve more than 30 years in prison.
