Bomb at market in India's remote northeast kills 8
GAUHATI, India (AP) - Police say a homemade bomb exploded at a market in India's violence-wracked north-east, killing at least eight people and injuring seven others.
A police officer said the fatalities included two policemen. He said the explosion occurred on Friday in Imphal, the capital of Manipur state. The officer spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Details were not available immediately. The region is about 470km south-east of Gauhati, the capital of Assam state.
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion. At least 17 separatist groups are active in Manipur state.
