TAINAN (AFP) - Taiwan police have arrested a person on suspicion of starting a fire in a hospital in the island's south that killed at least 12 people and injured 60, reports said on Tuesday.

The person was believed to be a patient in the hospital catering mainly to bed-ridden seniors as well as some mentally ill patients in southern Tainan city, ETTV cable news channel and other news channels reported.

The police department and prosecutors' office declined to comment when contacted by AFP.

Fire officials said that the blaze possibly started in a storage room on the second floor of the five-floor building, a branch of the public Sinying Hospital.
