13 Chinese coal miners die, 7 trapped after carriages crash
BEIJING (AP) - Rescue workers are searching for seven workers trapped after an accident that killed 13 other workers at a mine in north-west China.
The official Xinhua News Agency says the miners were killed after a steel cable pulling two carriages broke in the pit mine in Baiyin city in Gansu province.
It says the two carriages with 34 miners aboard slipped and overturned after the cable snapped shortly on Tuesday morning.
China has the world's deadliest coal mine industry with 1,973 miners killed in coal mine accidents last year.
