1 boy drowns, another missing off Hong Kong beach
HONG KONG (AFP) - One boy drowned and another was missing after three teenagers went for an early-morning swim in strong waves at one of Hong Kong's most popular beaches on Monday, police said.
Police divers pulled the body of a 15-year-old from the sea off Shek O beach around eight hours after the alarm was raised that he and his two companions were missing, police said.
Other swimmers rescued a 16-year-old girl but the second boy, also aged 15, had yet to be found as the search - involving a helicopter and scores of police officers - went on into the night.
Relatives of the dead boy broke down in tears as police divers laid his body on the beach, witnesses said. Attempts to resuscitate him on a concrete platform just offshore had failed.
