GEORGE TOWN (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK)- A section of the Penang International Airport's ceiling came crashing down after a downpour, injuring a customer support agent.
Lydiawaty Hamzah, 26, suffered a concussion and swollen left jaw after parts of the asbestos ceiling fell on her head when she was about to open a locker at 8.10am on Monday. "I felt dizzy after being hit. Several friends came to my help immediately. I feel okay but I'm still shaken," she said at Penang Hospital where she received outpatient treatment.
Parts of the ceiling collapsed after water overflowed from the roof gutters near Entrance 6 of the departure hall and ticketing counters.
Lydiawaty's colleague Nurul Ezwana Din, 25, described the scene as a "a mini waterfall". Another worker, who declined to be named, said water leakage was a common occurrence at the airport since renovation work began in December 2010.
