Parents deny causing Malaysian toddler's death through exorcism ritual

BUTTERWORTH (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The parents of a toddler who was suffocated in a ritual looked calm when they were charged with two counts of causing her death and exposing her to physical injury.

Chua Seng Ban and his pregnant wife Lim She Lee, both 35, pleaded not guilty along with five other relatives at a Sessions Court here to causing the death of their daughter, aged two years and nine months, through a rash or negligent act.

The other five are Chua Seng Hoo, 29, Chua Ah Luan, 40, Ong Soh Guat, 67, Loke Xim Lin, 21, and a 16-year-old boy.

They are alleged to have committed the offence at a house in Lorong Bukit Minyak 19, Taman Bukit Minyak in Bukit Tengah near Bukit Mertajam, between 7.50pm (7.50pm Singapore time) and 10.52pm on Aug 5, 2012.
