KL commended for role in Philippines' peace framework agreement

PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK)- The United States has commended Malaysia for facilitating the framework agreement between the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

"The United States welcomes the signing of the Framework Agreement between the Government of the Philippines and the MILF in the presence of President (Benigno) Aquino of the Philippines and Prime Minister (Datuk Seri) Najib (Tun Razak) of Malaysia.

"We commend the Philippines Government and the MILF leadership for their hard work and unwavering commitment to a better future, as well as Malaysia for its longstanding role as facilitator of the negotiations," the statement from the press secretary's office of The White House read.

It noted that the signing of the accord marked "another step toward ending insurrection and restoring good governance".
