KUCHING (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Datuk Lee Chong Wei's defeat in the London Olympics could have proven too much for an avid fan in Serian, Sarawak.

Chung Kin Kiat, 56, was watching the badminton match live on television in a coffee shop with a group of friends when he suddenly collapsed and died at the end of the match at about 9.20pm on Sunday.

"He was seen cheering after the first set but after China's Lin Dan eventually won (in three sets), he collapsed and did not regain consciousness," said Serian police chief DSP Mohd Jamali Umi when confirming the incident.

Medical personnel from Serian Hospital were called to the scene and they pronounced Chung dead. His body was then brought to Serian Hospital mortuary. The case has been classified as sudden death.
