GEORGE TOWN (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK): A three-year-old girl was found dead in a house on Sunday after a group of family members allegedly performed a ritual by sitting on her body.
Police have arrested eight people, including the child's parents, grandmother, uncle, aunt and a foreign maid at the house in Taman Bukit Minyak. They aged between 16 and 67. Police went to the house after receiving information at 10pm that something suspicious was taking place.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Azman Abd Lah said the incident was discovered by an uncle of the girl who had gone to the house by coincidence.
"He became suspicious that the main door of the house was not locked and immediately went to the first floor of the house where the master bedroom was located. When the uncle found that the room door was locked and the people inside refused to open the door, he immediately informed the police," he told reporters.
