The authorities in Sri Lanka's Kandy district are investigating a wedding couple for mobilising about 250 children from a state-owned school during school hours to carry the bride's 3.2km-long train in an attempt to set a record for the longest wedding sari.

A further 100 students served as flower girls in yesterday's ceremony.

National Child Protection Authority chairman Marini de Livera said: "We are going all out (in the investigation) because we don't want this to become a trend."
