Afghan President visiting India

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani kicks off a two-day visit to India today at a time when the two countries have drawn closer on the back of an evolving defence relationship.

The visit also comes in the wake of the US announcement of a new trilateral meeting between India, the United States and Afghanistan, signalling India's growing involvement with Afghanistan in spite of rival Pakistan's objections.

Walk to earn rice for the needy

Elderly folk, pre-schoolers and the deaf will be taking part in a community walk today to help "earn rice" for other vulnerable families.

Some 850 participants will clock a total of 50,000km in the FairPrice Walk for Rice @South East, with the target of raising 500,000 bowls of white and brown rice for the needy.

Redas Mid-Autumn Festival event

The Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (Redas) is holding its annual Mid-Autumn Festival lunch today. Its president, Mr Augustine Tan, is scheduled to give a welcome note. At the same event last year, Mr Tan had warned that various negative factors could cause home prices to plummet. The guest of honour at today's event is Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.
