Tillerson to meet Indian leaders

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is to meet the top Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today at the start of a three-day visit after announcing that the US wanted a strategic partnership with the world's largest democracy to counter Chinese influence in the Asia-Pacific. The US has made India a major defence partner, offering it top-flight weapons systems.

Asian Youth Para Games flag ceremony

The 2017 Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) flag ceremony and Athlete Achievement Awards 2017 event will be held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre today.

The event will also present Singapore's contingent for the 2017 AYPG taking place in Dubai from Dec 10 to 14. It will be the Republic's largest contingent to the AYPG, with 30 athletes competing in six sports.

Britain's GDP figures for Q3 out today

Britain will announce its gross domestic product performance for the third quarter today. Economists forecast an expansion of 0.3 per cent in the economy, according to a Bloomberg poll, unchanged from the previous three months and just half the average recorded in recent years. Notwithstanding this, rising inflation may force the Bank of England to raise the country's interest rates at its next policy meeting on Nov 2.
