Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan has sent a message of support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa over the severe floods currently inundating Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.

In the letter, Dr Balakrishnan said he was "saddened" by the loss of lives and hoped that they would abate soon, expressing confidence that the situation would return to normal under Ms Jayalalithaa's leadership.

He also told her that Singapore had committed US$75,000 (S$104,835) to the "South India Floods 2015" public appeal launched by the Singapore Red Cross, to "demonstrate Singapore's solidarity with the people of Tamil Nadu".
