A man searching for the bodies of those killed in a landslide at Tingling village, near Mirik, some 60km from Siliguri, yesterday. Landslides triggered by heavy rain have killed at least 21 people across India's famed tea-growing region of Darjeeling, police said, with more feared trapped under mounds of mud and debris. Rescuers are digging through tonnes of sludge after overnight landslides struck homes, which are mostly built on slopes.
