After the shooting, the white BMW coasted and crashed into the back of a four-wheel-drive vehicle in Jalan Pekaka 1 before coming to a stop at Lintang Pekaka 9.

A police forensics team is at the scene to investigate the case.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainol Samah told reporters at the scene preliminary investigations showed that the woman was shot six times in the chest.

"About 10 shots were fired and she was hit six times in the chest," he said, adding that two men on a motorcycle had approached the car before the pillion rider opened fire.

"She was not linked to any gang member and the case has nothing to do with gang activities," he said.
