EU meeting on allocating refugees

Representatives of the European Union nations will meet today to take up a proposal for allocating refugees among them.

Central and Eastern European nations are likely to be the most vocal opponents.

The discord has further unsettled a union already shaky from struggles over the euro and the Greek financial crisis and now facing a historic influx of people attracted by Europe's relative peace and prosperity.


Masks for cabbies at Changi Airport

The National Taxi Association (NTA) will be distributing N95 masks, surgical masks and antiseptic wet tissue to 2,500 taxi drivers at Changi Airport today, to help them cope with the hazy conditions. A group of 20 taxi leaders, led by NTA executive adviser Ang Hin Kee, will be present at the distribution.

Singapore has been shrouded in haze for the past few days as smoke from fires in Sumatra gets blown in by the prevailing winds.


Business awards to be announced

Look out for the businessmen who have excelled when the winners of the individual categories of the Entrepreneur of the Year are announced today. The awards are organised by the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and the Rotary Club of Singapore.
