Duterte to deliver key speech

The newly installed Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is delivering his first state of the nation address today. He is expected to speak about his legislative agenda, which could include the need to amend the Constitution to give way to federalism and to reinstate the death penalty for heinous crimes.


Roundtable on innovation

A regional roundtable on the 2016 Global Innovation Index, published by Cornell University, Insead and the World Intellectual Property Organisation, will be held here today. The index is a ranking of the world economies' innovation capabilities and results.

In past years, Singapore ranked among the 10 most innovative countries.


MAS annual report likely today

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is expected to release its annual report for fiscal year 2016 today. Last year, it reported a sharply lower net profit of $281 million for the year ended March 31, due to currency effects. It posted a net profit of $15.8 billion in 2013/14, aided by foreign-exchange gains.
