Trial of journalists begins

The trial of two Reuters journalists, who face 14 years in a Myanmar prison for allegedly violating the Official Secrets Act, is expected to formally begin today.

Wa Lone, 31, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 27, had worked on coverage of the Rohingya Muslim crisis in the western state of Rakhine.


Forum to inspire giving spirit

The National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre is holding the inaugural Giving Matters Forum: Imagining a City of Good, a platform for leaders to discuss how Singapore can become a City of Good. There will also be talks and activities designed to inspire ideas and galvanise action around giving.


Carbon tax under discussion

The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources will be organising a pre-Committee of Supply consultation session today on carbon tax. The session aims to seek suggestions on how to facilitate transition to a low carbon economy as well as gather feedback on the proposed carbon tax model.
