PM Lee, Najib attending Leaders' Retreat

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will attend a Leaders' Retreat in Putrajaya today with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, a key platform for the two nations to foster closer ties. The highlight of the annual retreat this year will be the signing of a bilateral agreement for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail project.

Quarterly labour market report

The Ministry of Manpower will release its quarterly report on the labour market today.

The report will cover the labour market situation in Singapore for the third quarter of this year, such as data on employment and unemployment.

Other areas that will be highlighted are redundancy, re-entry into the workforce, job vacancies, labour turnover and hours worked.

Chinese economic data out today

China watchers get their next triple dose of data today, when gauges give a health snapshot of the country’s economy as it heads towards the end of the year. Economists are expecting retail sales to have picked up last month, while industrial output and fixed-asset investment remained steady. The economy seems to be on a firmer footing, as a recently released official factory gauge matched a post-2012 high.
