Bank Negara governor to hold briefing

Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz will announce Malaysia's second-quarter gross domestic product figures at a press conference today, her first public appearance since a multi-agency team involving the central bank began investigating allegations that funds linked to 1MDB were deposited in Premier Najib Razak's accounts. She will likely address the ringgit's alarming slide in recent weeks and questions over 1MDB-linked fund transfers.

Aviation open house

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore is holding its fourth Aviation Open House from today till Saturday at the Suntec Convention Centre. The event aims to reach out to young job seekers, and showcase the career and education opportunities in the industry. It will be officially opened by Senior Minister of State (Transport and Finance) Josephine Teo.

Genting to release Q2 results today

Genting Singapore is scheduled to release its second quarter results today. The casino operator caused consternation last week when it issued a profit warning on its upcoming results. It blamed the expected fall in earnings to "fair value loss on derivative financial instruments as a result of unfavourable market conditions and unrealised foreign exchange translation losses". Genting shares have shed 10.6 per cent of their value since then.
