Nomination day for Sarawak polls

Today is nomination day for the 11th state election in Sarawak, ahead of polls on May 7. Candidates vying for the 82 seats up for grabs in the East Malaysian state will formally file their papers with the election commission to seek a place on the ballot papers. The previous Sarawak state election was held in 2011.


STB to unveil tourism strategies

The Singapore Tourism Board is expected to announce its sharpened strategies towards quality tourism today . The announcement will be made at its annual Tourism Industry Conference. Attendees include representatives from hotels, travel agencies and the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions sector.


Release of March consumer price index

The consumer price index for March, due today, will likely make for interesting reading after the Monetary Authority of Singapore's (MAS) tweak of its exchange rate policy for zero appreciation of the Singdollar. The neutral stance is driven by MAS' outlook on inflation. Headline inflation has been negative for the past 16 months, largely due to falling rents and private car prices. But with a weaker economy, core inflation has also started to trend lower.
