KUALA LUMPUR • A clip showing former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin claiming to his guests that Prime Minister Najib Razak told him that the Premier received US$700 million (S$960 million) in his accounts was reported on news websites yesterday, the third video showing the politician criticising his former boss.

The 53-second video, apparently recorded using a mobile phone, added another dimension to the multi-layered scandal linked to the state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) that has engulfed Malaysia.

The clip showed Tan Sri Muhyiddin just hours after his sacking on Tuesday talking to several guests at his home in Damansara Heights. He was seated beside Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir and former minister Kadir Sheikh Fadzir was present as well.

Though the audio was soft, the part was audible where Mr Muhyiddin alleged that Mr Najib admitted that US$700 million did flow into his personal account.

Mr Muhyiddin told his guests: "This is what he (PM Najib) said. He admitted. So I said: Why did you put into your personal account?" The video ended there.

Mr Kadir, contacted by Malaysiakini, confirmed the conversation took place but declined to comment further. "I don't want to comment on it. It was a private conversation. It wasn't supposed to be recorded. Mukhriz had asked people not to record it," he was quoted as saying yesterday.

PM Najib has said that he never used public funds for "personal gain". Officials have asked Malaysians to give investigators the time and space to conduct the probe into the 1MDB scandal.

Mr Muhyiddin had twice before spoken at functions where he was taped criticising Mr Najib.

In May, when speaking at a closed-door briefing, he told the audience that he had told the Prime Minister to sack the board of 1MDB.

Last Sunday, he was recorded speaking at an Umno function where he said Mr Najib must explain the scandal to the public and that he had asked the Prime Minister to resign from 1MDB.
