MANILA (AFP) - A typhoon that struck the Philippines over the weekend has claimed at least 21 lives, the Philippine Red Cross said on Monday.

Eighteen of those people died on the eastern island of Samar, where Typhoon Hagupit made landfall on Saturday with winds of 210km, Red Cross secretary general Gwendolyn Pang told AFP.
