The Philippines on Tuesday advised some 15,000 Filipinos in Thailand to avoid rally sites and large gatherings, as the political crisis in that country deepens.
In a news briefing, the foreign ministry's spokesman Charles Jose said the government has raised its alert level for Filipinos in Thailand from 1, taking precautions, to 2, restricting "non-essential movements" and preparing to evacuate.
He said the Philippines is hoping a "peaceful resolution" of the crisis in Thailand "through dialogue and observance of democratic principles".
Mr Jose said the Department of Foreign Affairs will send a team to Thailand to closely monitor the situation there.
