KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian officials will hold a special briefing session for the families of missing flight MH370 on Wednesday, a statement from the Malaysian Transport Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The Department of Civil Aviation and Malaysia Airlines will lead the briefing, which will be moderated by the Prime Minister's Special Envoy to China. Technical experts from Malaysia, China and Australia will participate in the briefing, and the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia will attend," the statement said.

The meeting will be a closed-door affair. Previously Malaysia's Acting Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein told reporters that the special briefing will also be telecast live to Beijing so dozens of families in the Chinese capital can also receive the same information in real time.

The meeting comes as the Malaysian government attempts to reduce tension with the families who have been increasingly flying into the Malaysian capital demanding direct information from the authorities, Xinhua reported.

Mr Hishamuddin himself is in the United States Pacific Command in Hawaii while Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak will fly to Perth on Wednesday to observe search operations first hand.
