SINGAPORE - The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta has issued a consular notice after media reports of explosions that struck the Kampung Melayu area in East Jakarta on Wednesday (May 24) night.

It advised Singaporeans in Jakarta to avoid the area, closely monitor local media for developments, and take all necessary safety precautions.

They can also register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) online at eregister.mfa.gov.sg.

For urgent consular assistance (24-hrs), Singaporeans should contact the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta (+62 811 863 348) or the MFA Duty Office (+65 6379 8800/8855).

Mr Amrin Amin, Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and Health, reacted to the explosions by stressing the need to stay alert and "unite to fight exclusivism and terror".

"The blasts in Jakarta and Manchester are loud, sobering reminders that it could happen anywhere [...]. Including here," he said in a post on Facebook.
