SIA flight forced to land in Myanmar

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from Dhaka, Bangladesh, was forced to land in Myanmar because of an engine failure.

The 190 passengers on board Flight SQ449 - an Airbus 330 jet - which was scheduled to arrive in Singapore at about 7pm yesterday ended up in Mandalay.

Confirming the incident, SIA told The Straits Times: "As engineers on ground require time to address the technical issue, a replacement aircraft will be deployed to Mandalay to transport passengers and crew to Singapore."

The rescue flight is expected to arrive at Changi Airport at 6.05am today, about 11 hours behind schedule.

Correction note: In an earlier version of this story, SIA said there were 163 passengers on board and that the rescue flight was scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 4.40am. SIA has since updated the information to 190 passengers and 6.05am.
