DUBAI (AFP) - Severe turbulence hit a Gulf Air flight from the Philippines to Bahrain on Friday, causing slight injures among passengers and crew, the airline said.

"Flight GF155 carrying 247 passengers from Manila to Bahrain experienced severe turbulence while mid-flight... resulting in some passengers and crew sustaining minor injuries," Gulf Air said in a statement.

The aircraft was diverted to the Indian city of Mumbai, where one passenger received medical attention at the airport.

"Gulf Air apologises for the uncontrollable incident and resulting impact on passengers," the Bahrain-based airline said.

The plane underwent inspection and maintenance at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport before resuming its journey to Manama, it added.

Operating since 1950, Gulf Air serves 43 cities in 24 countries across three continents, according to its website.
