Selangor PAS says resignations won't cripple party

SHAH ALAM (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The spate of resignations of Selangor PAS members from branch and division positions will not cripple the party, says Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad.

The Selangor PAS commissioner said necessary arrangements had been made to ensure the branches and divisions continue to operate without a hitch in spite of the resignations.

The party is facing a spate of resignations in Selangor among supporters of splinter group Gerakan Harapan Baru.

Last week, 13 youth leaders from the party's Shah Alam division resigned from their positions.

"Regardless of whatever happens, Selangor PAS is prepared to take over the branches and divisions to ensure the smooth running of the party," said Iskandar when met at the state assembly on Wednesday.

He added the matter had already been discussed with PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali and a decision has been made for the branches and divisions to be taken over by temporary committees.

Iskandar said that this was in-line with the party's constitution.

He added the temporary committee would manage the divisions for a stipulated period of time.
