Sabah opposition leader Shafie Apdal will be remanded for four days to help in investigations related to alleged abuse of power and misappropiation of RM1.75 billion (S$563 million) in funds when he was rural development minister.

He was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday, with the court yesterday agreeing with the agency's application for the remand.

Hundreds of supporters of Parti Warisan Sabah, an opposition party he founded after leaving Umno, turned up to wish him "happy birthday". He turned 60 yesterday.
