KOTA KINABALU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK)- City authorities have ordered a coffee shop in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to shut down for two weeks after a video of two rats rummaging through food in a food display cabinet went viral.

The name of the eatery at the Likas Plaza was not mentioned, but Kota Kinabalu City Hall director-general Datuk Joannes Solidau said they had identified it and issued a two-week closure order on the restaurant on Friday afternoon.

"Our officers have given them the close order notice and they will have to clean up their premises," he said.

Solidau added that further investigation into the cleanliness of the shop and hygiene practices of the operator were also being carried out.

The 34-second video clip, apparently taken by a customer, shows two rats running around the food stored in the glass display cabinet.

The person taking the video can be heard laughing and telling someone else that they would never patronise the eatery again.
