KUALA LUMPUR • Umno members and leaders gathered at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday to commemorate party president and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's 40 years in politics.

The gathering, held at the centre's Dewan Tun Razak 1 Hall, started with Datuk Seri Najib and the guests performing prayers.

Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as well as other members of the party's supreme council were among the leaders present.

Friends and current and former associates of Mr Najib also attended the gathering.

Mr Najib was expected to address the gathering last night.

Mr Najib entered politics on Feb 21, 1976, when he won the uncontested parliamentary constituency of Pekan following the death of his father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who also became prime minister.
