KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A teenager concocted a story about finding a newborn baby outside her window so that her mother would not find out that she had just given birth to the child.

The 19-year-old girl told her mother she heard cries from outside a window at their house at around 7.30am on Tuesday (Feb 28).

Hulu Selangor OCPD Superintendent R. Supramaniam said the mother went to investigate and found a black cloth tied onto the window grille, with a baby wrapped inside it.

She contacted the police and a team of investigators were deployed to the double-storey terrace house in Bandar Utama, Batang Kali.

"There was no direct access to the window grille unless the suspect abandoning the baby had climbed up the telephone pole, or snuck through the neighbour's veranda.

"The daughter of the house owner was behaving suspiciously and was noticeably weak. When we took her in for questioning, she confessed to giving birth to the child", Supt Supramaniam explained.

He said the girl admitted to delivering the baby boy at about 6.45am and lying to her mother about it.

The girl also told police that her 17-year-old boyfriend had impregnated her. Both teenagers were taken in for further questioning.

The girl was also referred to Hospital Kuala Kubu Bharu.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandoning a child below the age of 12.
