IPOH (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A group of people came to the aid of an elderly woman who was in the midst being robbed by two suspects in Pasir Putih, Malaysia.

Footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

It depicts the 68-year-old victim in her car parked in a back alley, when two men on a motorcycle stop next to the car.

A suspect gets off the motorcycle and opens the victim's car door and snatches her bag before attempting to get on the vehicle again.

A person standing close by immediately runs over and pulls the bike off-balance, preventing the duo from getting away.

Struggles ensue as the suspects repeatedly try to get on the bike and get away, but are unable to as more and more people - up to nine people - run into the back alley to prevent their escape.

It is learnt that the group of people let the duo go free as they did not manage to rob the victim.

However, the victim later lodged a police report over the incident.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the incident happened at 3.20pm Tuesday, when the victim was in the back alley in her car.

"Two men on a motorcycle pulled her shirt and asked for money. The woman shouted for help and people came to her aid," he said, adding that the suspects' motorcycle had a fake registration plate.

"The victim did not suffer any losses or injuries during the incident," said Asst Comm Sum in a statement on Wednesday.

The first suspect was arrested at his residence in Chemor at 4.21pm Wednesday while the second suspect was arrested thirty minutes later in Tambun.

Both suspects have been remanded for six days by the police to assist in investigations.
